Day 72 Phoenix Spirit Reborn

Day 72 — Took a retrospective look at my project 100 journey and I came across the commissioned piece I painted early in this project. That inspired me to paint another phoenix painting. What I love about this painitng is I got a chance to use several techniques I've learned like flowing several colors together and layering. With fresh new eyes, the painting came out quite textured and full of energy. Enjoy "Phoenix Spirit Reborn."

Day 71 Great Wave of Inspiration

Day 71 — On the last thirty days of my great adventure and I wanted to pay tribute to a favorite artist of mine. I've been holding onto this card that my friend gave me a while back and it was the painting "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa" by Katsushika Hokusai. Hokusai is a Japanese artist from the late 18th century and produced over thirty thousand works of art - drawings, woodblock prints, illustrations, paintings and many others. I love his story and I can relate to his life. He is well known for this painting. Here is my interpretation entitled "Great Wave of Inspiration."

Day 69 — Getting some really great looks at the night sky with the moon shining bright. That was the inspiration for today's painting which depicts the moon glowing above right before the sun is setting. I really love the gazing at the night sky. Lots of great hues of violets, oranges, blues and grey. Enjoy "Celestial Moon, Glowing Serenity."

Day 68 Red-tail Hawk, Messenger of the Sky

Day 68 — Today I decided to paint a bird that soars through the skies. We have many red-tail hawks throughout the countryside and I see them often perched on the ground or above the telephone polls. I find it fascinating when they swoop from their perch and soar through the air. That was today's inspiration - painting the so-called "Messenger of the sky" as it takes flight. Enjoy "Red-tail Hawk, Messenger of the Sky."

Day 67 Flaring Spirit

Day 67 — By request, I decided to paint a rooster with all its spunk for today's painting. One thing that's remarkable about these creatures is their bright colored feathers and their spirited character. They're truly majestic looking birds and being around them in our friend's farm - they have an inquisitive and fun nature. Enjoy "Flaring Spirit."

Day 66 Embracing the Wave of Change

Day 66 — Got to reading about some of the animals I've painted and some others yet to paint. I came across the panther & salmon. These are two interesting creatures and according to the book, the panther is about embracing the unknown while the salmon is about embracing the known - which is inner knowing or instinct. The two lessons here is about embracing the unknown, which is outside of the self, and embracing the known, which is inside the self. Today's painting conveys the black panther calmly awaiting the wave while the three salmon swim & jump to the flow of the wave. The salmon is taking action through its inner wisdom to flow with the wave of change. While the daylight moon shows both the visible and invisible parts of itself. Great imagery! Enjoy "Embracing the Wave of Change."

Day 64 Beautiful Day in the Tuscan Villa

Day 64 — Today's Tuscan scene was inspired by my really great friend in San Diego. She's like a big sister to me. Happy birthday, Paula. She's talked often about her dream of living in a Tuscan villa in Tuscany, so I decided to stay with the theme. Here is my interpretation entitled "Beautiful Day in the Tuscan Villa."

Day 63 Tuscany: Grapes, Olives & Villas

Day 63 — Happy birthday to my big sister, Arlene! She inspired today's painting with her talks on visiting Tuscany. This gave me the idea for painting a scene overlooking a Tuscan villa complete with an olive grove, grapes and rolling hillsides. I love the beautifully lit sky in the background. Such a wonderful day in the villa.

Enjoy "Tuscany: Grapes, Olives & Villas."

Day 62 Jungle Swimming Lesson

Day 62 — Continuing with the jungle cat, I've painted a mother with her cub. She swims in the river while her cub watches for the first swimming lesson. I love the color scheme on these paintings. Day 61 Chasing Dragons

Day 61 — This has been a fun several days painting the elephants. I've decided to explore the jungle wildlife a little more with tigers. Today's inspired painting has our jungle cat leaping from the water for dragons...or dragonflies, rather. It's a fun painting.

Enjoy "Chasing Dragons."

Today's inspired painting continues with the elephants — specifically two young ones. They're like friends meeting at their favorite spot in the bamboo forest. I really like that they are at play and enjoying each other. Brings up lots of potentials for a title and I've decided to ask you to name this painting. What title comes to mind when viewing the two elephants at play?

Day 59 Galaxy Stroll

Day 59 — Another amazing day and I've decided to keep with the elephant theme for the time being. I'm also currently into painting the evening skies. Today's inspiration combines the two with our majestic animal taking a stroll out from the bamboo forest into the open green fields for some star-gazing.

Enjoy "Galaxy Stroll."

Day 58 Starry Night Adventure in the Grove

Day 58 — Today's inspiration comes from our gentle giants, one of the largest land mammals, elephants. As big as these animals are, they have the most gentle eyes. I recall the painting elephant from Thailand and this got me interested in painting them. Here is my masterpiece, entitled "Starry Night Adventure in the Grove."

Day 57 Fun Pouring From Above

Day 57 — Today is my godson's 3rd birthday and he inspired the painting. I love that kids enjoy life and laugh at everything. That's a remarkable trait. I love to laugh and looking at Roel's image reminds me of that. The youthful outlook on life truly is a great thing.

Day 56 Blossoming Desires

Day 56 — I was talking to a friend and it was mentioned that I should paint Green Tara. She's a Buddhist diety that is known as the buddha of enlightened activity or buddha of action. I found it fascinating to read about her. I also read that she decided to return in each of her subsequent lives as a woman until she reaches enlightenment. This is significant because most Buddhas have been primarily males. Truly a figure that inspires. I love the vibrant greens in this painting.

Day 53 Chapters and Beers

Day 53 — What I loved about roaming through the towns and villages of Ireland were seeing the colorful buildings. The bright colors give the towns such a cheery and inviting atmosphere. I often find myself smiling when looking at the pictures of the buildings. Today's painting has elements of the bold colors and some aspects that I enjoyed about the towns.

Day 52 The Horse's Castle

Day 52 — While we were in Galway, Sarah took me to some of her favorite spots when she studied abroad at National University of Ireland, Galway. One of those was a hidden castle near a river and bogs. The castle still had its walls, yet was weathered through the years and engulfed by the vegetation. There inside the castle was a Connemara grey, dappled pony. It was so cool. Sarah whispered to the horse and made a new friend. The memory of that day brings me to day 52's painting, "The Horse's Castle."

Day 49 Connemara Landscape II

Day 49 — The rain is still coming down here in Oregon and I'm still painting the Connemara landscape. This time I found an old sketch of a beautiful tree with sheep grazing. I hiked up there in Ireland. It was another wet day in Ireland and the rain had just stopped when I arrived at the place. That's when I did my sketch.

Now, here it is on day 49. Enjoy "Connemara Landscape II - Grazing under the Tree."

Day 48 Connemara Landscape

Day 48 — All this rain pouring through Oregon has me reminiscing about Ireland. I painted the landscape of creeks, lush green-lands, castles and sheep. I think that imagery stays with me as we drove through the countryside. I just love the vibrancy of Ireland's landscape - so much color.
