Humming Birds in Flight

Continuing with the Market series, I finished 2 more paintings of humming birds. The paintings are entitled "Snapshot, Golden Moment" and "Rendezvous."

These paintings are a reminder for me to be in the moment and enjoying the present. We have many humming birds flying through our home during the spring, summer and fall. I love hearing them as they buzz through drinking from our feeders.

Painting for the Saturday Market

McMinnville has a new market in town — The Saturday Market. Shannon Thorson has coordinated the ongoing event for the last 3 months. It features organic produce, entertainment, visual & literary art, wine, boutique goods & fine food and provisions. There are many vendors coming from various parts of the Willamette Valley, Salem and other surrounding counties. It's a fantastic mix of personalities and budding entrepreneurs selling their goods.

I have been participating since December and enjoy meeting, talking and hobnobbing with local citizens of McMinnville. I have been showcasing art from my Project 100, my I'Ching series and new pieces that I create weekly. It's been a great opportunity to have a weekly venue to showcase new work during the winter.

Here's my current new piece entitled, "Star-Gazer."

And more pictures from the Market.

Emerge Oregon

So last Friday, I participated with Emerge Oregon Art Series — http://www.emergeoregon.com/. Originally this was a First Friday show at the Coffee House Cafe in Salem, Oregon. Now they are expanding to 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. They showcase emerging artists and for $5 each participating artist can display up to 3 art pieces with no commission taken from sales. Jonathan Boys and Tim Wiener founded this great event and do so to provide a consistent place for emerging artists to showcase their artwork. The shows have averaged over 300 for their once-monthly-single-night event.

For this show, I showcased 3 new pieces inspired by Project 100's day 39 "Atop The Universe." Here is Namaste, Warrior and Way Show-er.

Who's On Third?

This past weekend on July 10th to the 12th, I once again participated in McMinnville's "Who's on Third? - Artist Village". This year, the canopies were set up two streets down on Cowls Street. This was a much better spot because we were in the middle of foot traffic as people went from live concert to the next and visiting vendors along the way. The weather was much cooler than last year, as well. No 90+ degree heat to scare art patrons from melting asphalt. Sunrise Rotary, the sponsor for this event, decided to have the public vote on their favorite work of art — The People's Choice Award for First, Second and Third. Over 20 artists participated this year which made it an incredible festival of talent.

It was great to see people coming back from last year and remembering me. More than one occasion I was greeted with "I remember you from last year, I love your art" or "I saw you on tv and I had to see your work". That made this event really special for me. I was thrilled to visit with each of them talk about my paintings. This makes me realize that I am developing a following of admirers and collectors of my art. Thank you to all those that bought art and stopped into my canopy.

Art Walk - Newberg Gallery

This is my third showing at Newberg's First Friday, Art & Wine Walk. For the month of June, I am featured in Sally Dallas' Newberg Gallery. Sally Dallas, master framer & certified picture framer and owner of Newberg Gallery, invited me to showcase my new series of paintings on the I'Ching. For this event, I finished another painting using the I'Ching symbol #7 Shih. Shih consists of two trigrams "earth" and "water", which symbolizes the ground water stored in the earth. I've chosen to depict a mountain reflecting itself onto the water surface surrounded by iris' and the resourceful baby spiders spinning their webs around.

The event was fun and I met lots of great people such as these students from nearby George Fox University. I explained to them about my process of painting and of the I'Ching.

The Art of Dining

Artists create with all forms and various mediums. I particularly am fond of chefs who create magnificent and delectable dishes. Here imagination is paramount, along with fine sensitivity to pairing the many flavors to send your taste buds soaring. The key ingredient to create that superb dish is having the freshest and highest quality foods. North American Import & Export Company has this goal in mind when providing for the premier American restaurant. They have a promo that gives you the opportunity to dine on your favorite dishes on them.

Here's a chance to visit your favorite culinary artist and feast on their mastery in the kitchen.

Da Vinci Exhibit

Visited the OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry) in Portland yesterday to experience the Da Vinci Exhibit. What a great exhibit! Da Vinci was an incredibly talented man. Imagine creating your own written language written backwards. You can see reproductions of his notebooks containing his language and many poster-sized sketches, drawings, notes at the OMSI.

The weekend show was a fantastic experience. The town of Carlton was welcoming to everyone attending, especially friends visiting from out-of-town like Portland and Vancouver. What a memorable day! I loved broadcasting live. That gave me an opportunity to share the gallery with my friends & family from out-of-state - California, Nevada and the East Coast. The NEST Project

The NEST project is a collaboration of creativity from artists of Yamhill County, Oregon inspired by the word "NEST". Learn about Jan Shield, Professor of Art at Pacific University, who envisioned this concept of NEST from his hilltop home in Chehalem Mountain at his website: Dancing Trees Sanctuary. I am contributing my creative talent to this project which will involve a several new originals utilizing the honeycomb structures found in beehives. For this art project, I will be delving into encaustics, using beeswax and oils to create my masterpieces.

Artists Village update - McMinnville Downtown Festival

With temperatures in the high 80's on Friday and mid 90's on Saturday, the Artist Village received astounding traffic from art patrons & connoisseurs of all ilk. With 20 juried artists, the village was well represented with artists -- copper-smith, pottery, sumi-e, water color, color pencil, felting, wood-carver, photography, and oils. This was a remarkable weekend of meeting new people who admired and purchased my art. Considering this was my first juried venue at McMinnville, I had a wonderful reception from the patrons stopping by my booth to gander at the originals on display. I definitely enjoyed my first showing at McMinnville, Oregon.
